Vivo launched its new smartphone Vivo V9 in march 2018, with a notch which is very usual these days in smartphones, although smartphones makers are going with the Apple IphoneX trend which has a notch on the top of the display.

Like the Oppo F-series, the Vivo V9 also boasts of a camera that will give you incredible shots. Meanwhile, the Oppo F7 undercuts the Vivo V9 price of Rs 22,990 by Rs 1,000.

What’s In the box

Vivo v9 with pre applied screen protector, A clear silicon case, Power adaptor with micro to usb cable, A pair of earphones, Warranty card and some paper manuals with a sim ejector tool.

Display and Design

The smartphone features a notch on the top and features a 6.3 inches display and claims of having 90% screen-to-body ratio. The phone is light in weight with just 150 grams. Picture quality through screen is good, viewing angles are decent. Sunlight visibility is something that we liked in outdoor conditions, its clear contrast is good. It has 19:9 display ratio which looks pleasant to eyes. Resolution of the display is 1080 x 2280 pixels Full HD+ .

Lets talk about the design

The bezels on the smartphone are kept at a bare minimum of just 1.75 mm that makes V9 compact in design as a traditional 5.5-inch phone but offers an incredible 6.3-inch display. Even the build of the phone impressive. It has a plastic body, with coating on the rear to give the impression of a glass back.

On the back of the phone it features Dual rear cameras setup, a single LED flash, Fingerprint sensor and with the VIVO branding in it. On the left sim tray is there and on the right volume rockers along with the Power button. On the bottom of the screen there is a Headphone jack, Microphone, USB jack along with the speaker grill. However the Vivo V9 is soo light weight which feels comfortable in hands and its slim as well

Performance and Battery

Vivo v9 comes with Snapdragon 626 chipset MSM8953 Pro processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The phone has 4GB of RAM to handle multitasking. RAM management is also impressive even if it comes with heavily customized skin. Considering the price point, the company could have selected the Snapdragon 630 or 636 which we can see in Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The memory of the phone, is of course, expandable to 256GB using a microSD card slot if you feel you need more than 64GB for your data. It comes with FunTouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and its UI looks little inspired from Apple Iphone UI.

Benchmark results

The phone also has built in Motorbike mode, which is very convenient especially considering the traffic violations which happens due to usage of smartphones on Indian roads. It allows the user to enable auto-rejection of incoming calls, mutes notifications and actually assesses the speed you’re moving at before letting you answer calls again.

It comes with 3260mAh battery which is Okay for a normal users, But in extreme usage it didnot lasts even one day, although it only consumes battery while heavy gaming otherwise it can give a good backup. e.g i kept it over night and when i left it before sleeping it was 8% in low power mode and when i wake up it was still 8% which is quite good.

Gaming experience

we tested the phone with several games including Asphalt 8, PUBG and Modern Combat 5. All these games were smooth with no issue at any time during gameplay. One thing that is quite impressing is that the phone doesn’t heats up while gameplay So, this phone is also good for a decent gaming experience.

Camera

The phone comes with dual camera setup on the rear which includes a 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The phone offers Bokeh mode and Shot Refocus option for adjusting the depth effect even after clicking the photo. At the front, it has 24-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

It has the usual options for Panorama, Pro Mode, Video and Portrait modes. What they’ve added are augmented reality (AR) stickers. In artificial lightning , the Vivo V9 takes bright pictures and sharpness if little low But in outdoor light it takes well balanced, crisp and clear pictures.

Camera samples

Overall, i found pictures taken from Vivo v9 quite good at this price segment. It comes with a feature which we are familiar in Iphone that is Live photo mode. For the front camera it comes with face beauty, Group selfie and many more features which you will like

Final Verdict

Vivo V9 is a good phone for the price that it comes. It feels premium in terms of design and performance match the expectation. It has a good camera in its price segment and somewhere beats competitors easily. However it comes with snapdragon 626 which is not a new processor but overall it will give you a good experience but in some conditions it lacks a bit.

Thank you for reading, hope you liked it.
